This two day event will bring together mining affected communities from Canada, Honduras, Mexico and Guatemala where Canadian mining company Goldcorp has, or, continues to operate. Through community testimony, an international jury will consider the following questions:
1. How has Goldcorp affected health and wellbeing of these communities?
2. Does Goldcorp have the social license to operate in the communities in question?
Secondly, the jury will consider the role and responsibility of other actors. Specifically,
- What has been the company’s and the government’s response to the presenting issue?
- What role have the local, municipal, federal Guatemalan’s authorities and the Canadiangovernment had in relation to the company? What is the responsibility of these institutions?
